Accountable to the Deputy Director, the Accounting Specialist is responsible for the facilitation and supervision of the fiscal unit. The Accounting Specialist is responsible for the overall business management of the department.

RESPONSIBILITY AND RELATED TASKS

1. Maintains working knowledge of reconciliation procedures and performs monthly account reconciliation as needed.

2. Prepares and reconciles daily deposits for accuracy.

3. Checks monthly financial list to verify its accuracy and balances with the end of the month summary. After balancing all accounts, completes collections payable forms for proper collections disbursement to Taylor County and other departments.

4. Responsible for all General Ledger transactions and computer balances, coordinating them with the County Treasurer on a monthly basis.

5. Reconciles bank statements.

6. Adds and/or adjust fee changes on defendant?? cases after receiving notification.

7. Review Positive Pay daily and addresses any discrepancies.

8. Void restitution checks as necessary and record the General Ledger transactions.

9. Prepare the annual unclaimed restitution form for the Texas Comptroller and process the payment.

10. Process online child support payments semi-monthly.

11. Perform fee audits and notify intake when an error is found.

12. Manages the front desk staff and their duties.

13. Coordinate Toys for Tots drive annually.

14. Provide backup for front desk duties as needed, including processing payments (in person and by mail), notifying the appropriate Supervision Officer when a probationer reports, answering phones, and balancing the cash drawer.

15. Review accounts payable weekly, ensuring the accuracy of GL account numbers.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

Bachelor?? Degree in Business, Accounting, Finance or Management required. Must be competent in accounting and financial principles, and be trained and proficient with the computer ("computer literate") and general office machinery.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of techniques employed in the dynamics of supervision. Effective interpersonal skills.

Must have the willingness and ability to complete all assignments in a timely manner.

Must have the ability to deal with high stress situations and the physical ability to conduct all phases of the responsibilities and tasks.

OTHERS

Must possess the desire to perform job standards, including spontaneous assignments. An awareness of the job description, responsibilities, and boundaries is to be adhered to and maintained at all times.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $53,000.00 per year
